The Yakovlev built Yak-28 is a streamlined, swept-wing bomber with large engines under the wing that entered service in early 1960. Despite its similarity in appearance to the Yak-25, Yak-26 and Yak-27 family, it was a completely new design. Introduced to the West at the Tushino Air Show, the aircraft was falsely identified as a fighter and got the designation of "Flashlight". Once NATO experts realized that it was a bomber, the nickname was changed to '"Brewer'". Later an all-weather interceptor version was named "'Firebar". The first bomber version (Brewer-A) did not enter mass production. The next bomber version (Brewer-B) had insufficient room for the navigator/bombardier so following mass production resulted in the Brewer-C, which had a longer nose section and longer engine inlet ducts. Some remained in service until recently - mainly as electronic warfare aircraft. Further development produced four other versions: Crew:
Pilot and navigator/bombardier/EW operator
